Great question. I have definitely learned a lot of great stuff recently. I think the most fascinating thing that’s stuck with me is from learning about how the “holistic” and “reductionist” views of human disease and the function of the human body are both wrong in their own fun ways, eg- the clear failing (and possible danger) of vitamin pills versus dietary sources of nutrition and the heterotypic view of cancer (ie cancer is not simply a group of rogue cells but a collection of various types of cells that are involved that are behind the complexity of cancer). I’ve found that scientists have been embracing these ideas for a while, but nutritionists (often alt med proponents) and the general alt med community seem (keyword- seem) to be ignorant to it. I find that very frustrating, but I’m frustrated with a lot of the apparent misconceptions that alternative medicine proponents have about plenty of things. None of this may be new to you, but it’s new enough to me and I really like it.
